Pakistan's electrical supply service was first provided by a variety of organisations in the public and commercial sectors, located in various regions. Through the passage of the WAPDA Act, 1958, the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) was established in 1958 to ensure the unified and coordinated development of the water and power resources.

Several WAPDA Regions provided the local areas' electricity distribution service. In order to give the provincial government, elected officials, industrialists, agriculturalists, and other interest groups more autonomy and representation in AEB functions, the Area Electricity Board (AEB) Lahore was then established in 1982 as one of Pakistan's eight AEBs.

The environment and organisational structure of the electricity sector are drastically changing on a global scale. From monopoly to privatisation and from integration to fragmentation, the electricity industry is in transition. The power branch of WAPDA has been divided into 12 Companies for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity as a result of the Government of Pakistan's approval of a Strategic Plan in 1994.

With the intention of commercialization and ultimately privatisation, the Lahore Area Electricity Board was reorganised into one such corporatized organisation under the name Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) with effect from 22-03-1998.

AREA OF OPERATION - The Civil Districts of Lahore, Kasur, Okara, and Sheikhupura are within the purview of LESCO.
